Standout houseplant style!
Gloriously stylish, the Fiddle leaf fig tree is the king of the tropical large leaf houseplants, with leaves shaped like violins, crisscrossed with prominent veins. Ficus Lyrata says opulence, it’s a complete A lister!
A large indoor plant is how we know it, but Fiddle leaf fig originates in the rainforests of central and western Africa and it has become a favourite for those who like to buy house plants as an eye-catching centrepiece or bold statement for a room.
At home on the cover of a magazine, the Fiddle leaf fig is the epitome of style. Branches will grow from the leaf bases in time, bringing a touch of the exotic to any room. Imagine the sounds of the rainforest, colourful birds calling and raindrops landing on large, lush leaves……and with the Fiddle leaf fig tree you have a part of that rainforest in your living room! Close your eyes and be transported to exotica every time you sit down and look at your fig tree!
In its native surroundings in the rainforest it is an epiphyte, it starts life in the crown of a tree before sending its roots down to suffocate the host. In the wild it can grow up to 20 metres tall but in the house its maximum height is more like 2 metres.
Fiddle Leaf Fig doesn’t like being moved once it is in a spot where it’s settled. It’s best to leave it alone and admire it from afar! If you give it too much attention it will start to drop leaves so better to neglect a little!
