Sending a Plant as a Gift? Why a Handwritten Message Matters

Sending a plant as a gift has always felt a little different to us. Flowers are lovely, but they come and go quickly. A plant settles in. It becomes part of someone’s home. You might see it years later still growing in the corner of a room, quietly reminding someone of the person who sent it.

Because of that, we’ve always felt the small details matter.

One thing we never changed, even as the business grew, is writing gift messages by hand. If you add a message at checkout, we copy it onto one of our botanical gift cards ourselves. No printed slips. No generic insert. Just a simple handwritten note tucked in with the plant.

It’s not complicated, but it feels more personal. And when you’re sending a gift, that’s usually the part that matters most.

There’s something very human about handwriting. It slows things down. It reminds the person opening the box that someone actually thought about them, rather than just clicking a button online.

When we’re packing orders in the barn, the gift messages are often the nicest part of the day. Birthday wishes, thank you notes, new home congratulations, quiet encouragement for someone going through a hard week. You can feel the care behind them.

We also remove prices automatically from gift orders. It’s a small practical thing, but it means the plant arrives ready to give, without any awkward paperwork or extra steps for the sender.

Some companies charge extra for gift cards or upgraded gifting options. We’ve never really liked that approach. For us, it’s simply part of sending a plant well. The botanical card and handwritten message are included because they belong in the experience, not because they’re an add on.

If you’re thinking about sending a plant to someone, you don’t need to overthink it. A healthy plant, packed with care, and a few honest words written by hand are often enough.

And sometimes, those simple touches are what people remember most.
