Say hello to one of the most uniquely textured succulents you’ll ever meet. Senecio scaposus, often called the Silver Coral Plant, is prized for its shimmering, felted leaves that look almost frosted. Covered in a soft silvery coating, this compact succulent brings an otherworldly vibe to any indoor space.

Native to South Africa, it grows in dense, upright clusters and stays naturally compact, making it perfect for sunny shelves, windowsills, and succulent bowls. Its unusual texture and colour contrast beautifully with other plants in your collection.

Plant Size
• Pot diameter: 10.5cm
• Height: Varies – typically around 15–20cm tall
• Naturally compact, with upright, cylindrical leaves

Where Silver Coral Comes From
This succulent is native to the dry, mountainous regions of South Africa, where it grows in rocky, sun-baked soils. The silvery coating on its leaves helps reflect sunlight and retain moisture – a natural adaptation to intense heat and drought.

Styling Your Senecio scaposus
This plant looks incredible in a rough terracotta or minimalist ceramic pot to highlight its silver tones. Perfect for windowsills, open shelving, or a low-profile centrepiece. It pairs beautifully with darker green succulents like Crassula ovata or deep purple Echeverias.

Senecio scaposus Care Guide
Light: Needs full sun or very bright light indoors
Water: Water sparingly – only when the soil is completely dry
Soil: Free-draining cactus or succulent mix
Temperature: Keep above 10°C – this is a warm-loving plant
Feeding: Feed occasionally in spring/summer with a diluted cactus fertiliser or our Organic Tropical Plant Food

Silver Coral Plant FAQs
Why is it silver?
The fine hairs on the leaves reflect sunlight and trap moisture, giving the plant its silvery-white look. It’s an evolutionary adaptation to extreme sun and drought.

Can I touch the leaves?
Yes, but try not to over-handle – the protective coating can wear off with too much touching. It won’t hurt the plant, but it may affect the appearance.

Does it flower?
Yes – it can produce small white or pale yellow flowers, but it’s mostly grown for its incredible foliage.

Shipping: We ship via DPD’s 24-hour tracked carbon neutral service.

Delivery times are 7-10 working days, but are usually much quicker. More details can be found here

We post all our plants to most of the UK, with the exceptions of the Islands of Scotland, the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of White, the Scilly Isles and the Channel Islands due to the high cost of shipping.

Measurements: The plant heights provided encompass the plant stem and the foliage length, along with the depth of the grow pot, which includes the living root system, and not just the portion of the plant that is visible above the soil level.

Although we strive to provide plants within the specified size range, there may be some instances where the plants supplied could be slightly smaller or larger than the size selected.
