Native Habitat and Growth Patterns
English Ivy is native to Europe and Western Asia, where it thrives in woodlands, climbing trees and carpeting the forest floor. As a houseplant, it maintains its vigorous, evergreen nature in cooler indoor temperatures, rewarding you with fast growth and an easy-care personality. Its trailing stems can be left to grow wild or trimmed to suit your space.
Care Tips for English Ivy
Light Requirements:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It will tolerate some shade, though growth may slow and leaves may lose definition in very low light.
Temperature & Humidity:
English Ivy prefers cooler rooms — between 10–20°C is ideal. It enjoys moderate humidity and can adapt well to typical UK indoor conditions.
Watering:
Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Avoid overwatering, as Ivy dislikes sitting in waterlogged soil. Let the compost dry out slightly between waterings.
Soil & Potting Mix:
A standard, well-draining houseplant compost will suit Ivy well. Repot every couple of years or when roots begin to outgrow the pot.
Feeding:
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer using our Organic Tropical Plant Food, a vegan, natural fertiliser designed to promote strong roots and healthy growth.
