We love Sedum burrito, also known as Burro’s Tail or Donkey’s Tail, for its plump, cascading leaves and sculptural trailing stems. Native to Mexico and Honduras, this unusual succulent is adored by collectors for its soft blue-green foliage and elegant waterfall effect. Perfect for a sunny windowsill or hanging planter, Sedum burrito is both striking and surprisingly easy to grow.

Native habitat and growth pattern
Sedum burrito comes from rocky, arid regions of Central America, where it thrives in full sun and sandy, well-draining soils. Its long, trailing stems can reach up to 90cm (3 feet) indoors, densely packed with fleshy, rounded leaves that spiral along the stems. In summer, mature plants may produce clusters of small pink-red, star-shaped flowers that attract pollinators.
Size
W8.5cm nursery pot. Supplied in a plastic nursery pot.

Sedum burrito care guide
Light requirements:
Loves bright light and a few hours of direct sun daily. A south-facing windowsill is ideal.
Watering:
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away. Reduce watering in winter.
Feeding:
Feed every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer with a cactus or succulent fertiliser. Our vegan, organic Cactus & Succulent Food, made from sustainably harvested seaweed, is perfect for healthy growth.
Humidity:
Thrives in dry conditions — no extra humidity is required.
Pet safety:
Sedum burrito is safe to grow around cats and dogs.
Propagation:
This plant is naturally fragile — its leaves and stems often break away in transit or when handled. Don’t worry: these pieces can be easily propagated, and the plant will continue to thrive.
