In the wild, Cereus florida grows in the dry, open landscapes of South America, thriving in intense sunlight and long dry periods. It stores water in its tall, ribbed stems, enabling it to survive months without rain. In its native habitat, mature plants can reach several metres in height and produce magnificent white flowers that open at night to attract bats and moths.
