ADD A BEAUTIFUL FITTED POT (OPTIONAL)

Happy house plants has a new favourite; the baby red coral is beautiful. Whilst Rhipsalis looks and feels like a cactus, it is actually from the rainforest, so if you can imagine this plant growing in a humid jungle away from direct sun, you will give it the care it needs.
We love this plant for its easy-care nature and unusual, almost alien-like appearance providing interesting structure and shape. It works well as a potted plant or as a hanging plant.
In the wild, it's native to Brazil, where it lives in tropical subtropical or tropical forests, hanging or hanging on branches or growing in the hollow of old trees. The main threat to the species is deforestation.
In its native habitat, Rhipsalis red coral can be found growing along tree branches as an epiphyte, never harming its host but growing in harmony, adding to the biomass and diversity of an ecosystem. Rhipsalis will grow in almost any light condition, making it ideal as a houseplant, and it travelled around the world being cultivated into many forms as a houseplant. It will, however, grow best in bright indirect light.
Light Requirements: Place the Red Coral in bright, indirect light, avoiding exposure to direct sunlight, which can cause leaf burn. It can tolerate some shade but thrives in moderate to bright light conditions.
Temperature and Humidity: Red Coral prefers average room temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C (65°F to 75°F). It appreciates moderate to high humidity levels, making it a great addition to bathrooms or well-humidified spaces. Regular misting or placing a tray of water nearby can help create a suitable environment.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings partially. Red Coral prefers slightly moist soil but can be sensitive to overwatering, leading to root rot. Adjust your watering frequency based on the season and environmental conditions.
Soil and Potting: Plant Red Coral in a well-draining soil mix suitable for cacti and succulents. A mixture of potting soil, perlite, and sand provides adequate drainage and prevents waterlogging.
Fertilizing: Feed Red Coral with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer formulated for cacti and succulents. Apply the fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) according to the manufacturer's instructions.
We decided not to tinker with it too much when developing our original Happy Houseplants’ Vegan Cactus & Succulent Food. You'll find no chemical supplements in this 100% cruelty-free vegan product. Our organic original Vegan Cactus & Succulent food is made from Seaweed harvested sustainably.
Seaweed provides a delicate blend of growth hormones and micronutrients, perfect for all indoor plants. Houseplants grow throughout spring, summer and autumn, so they will benefit from organic fertiliser during this time to encourage flowering and keep them healthy. The unique trailing habit of Rhipsalis Ramulosus makes it a versatile plant for styling. Here are some ideas to incorporate Red Coral into your indoor decor:
-
Hanging Baskets: Plant Red Coral in a hanging basket and let its vibrant red stems cascade down, creating an eye-catching display. This is a great way to maximize its trailing growth habit and add a touch of natural beauty to any corner of your home.
-
Terrariums: Red Coral can be a stunning addition to a terrarium or enclosed glass container garden. Its trailing branches will add vertical interest, and the red colouration will contrast sharply against the greenery.
-
Shelf Display: Place Red Coral on a high shelf or bookcase, allowing its trailing stems to drape down and create a visually appealing cascading effect. Combine it with other trailing plants or succulents to add depth and variety to your display.
-
Living Walls: Incorporate Red Coral into a living wall or vertical garden arrangement. Its vibrant red branches will add colour and texture to the overall design, creating a live work of art.
Whether you choose to showcase Red Coral in a hanging basket, terrarium, shelf display, or living wall, its unique appearance and low-maintenance nature make it a fantastic choice for adding a touch of natural beauty and visual interest to your indoor space.
