ADD A BEAUTIFUL FITTED POT (OPTIONAL)

Sedum Burrito (Donkey’s Tail) is one of our favourite trailing succulents and it’s easy to see why. With thick, cascading stems covered in plump, blue-green leaves, this striking houseplant looks incredible tumbling from a shelf or trailing over the edge of a hanging pot. It’s unusual, eye-catching, and surprisingly easy to care for, ideal for beginners or anyone looking to add something special to their collection.
This plant is also known as Sedum morganianum or Donkey’s Tail, thanks to its long, braided appearance. It’s a brilliant way to bring texture and personality to a bright room, especially when placed high so the foliage can grow freely. If you’re looking for an easy-care, pet-safe houseplant with a touch of drama, this could be perfect.
Size
12cm nursery pot.
Native habitat and growth pattern
In the wild, Sedum Burrito is native to dry, arid areas of South America, where it clings to cliffs and rocky slopes. It has evolved to break apart easily when brushed by animals or blown by the wind — and those broken pieces root themselves in the soil to form new plants. It’s a natural propagator and thrives on a bit of neglect, making it a great choice for laid-back plant parents.
Styling tips
This is a small but mighty plant that works beautifully in hanging pots or perched on shelves where it can cascade freely. Try styling it in a sunny bathroom, on a high kitchen shelf, or in a bright hallway to bring a splash of soft blue-green texture to your home. Pair it with other succulents or cacti for a bold, sculptural indoor garden look.
Sedum Burrito care guide
This is an easy-care houseplant that’s ideal for beginners.
Light requirements
Sedum Burrito loves bright, indirect light and can handle a few hours of gentle morning or late afternoon sun. A south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal.
Watering
Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. When it’s time to water, soak the soil thoroughly and allow it to drain — never let the plant sit in water. Like most succulents, it prefers to stay on the dry side.
Feeding
Feed every couple of weeks during spring and summer using our vegan, organic plant food to support healthy growth.
Humidity
It doesn’t need any special humidity — dry indoor air is fine.
Is Sedum Burrito safe for pets?
Yes, Sedum Burrito is non-toxic and pet safe, so it’s a great choice for homes with cats or dogs.
Why choose this plant?
- Unusual trailing succulent with beautiful form
- Easy to propagate — pieces that fall off can root and grow
- Pet safe and beginner friendly
- Looks amazing in hanging planters or on shelves
- Low maintenance and drought tolerant
Interesting facts
Because the stems break so easily, this plant has an amazing ability to spread and multiply in the wild. We wrap and pack with great care, but you may still find the occasional leaf or segment breaks off in transit — don’t worry, you can simply plant them in soil and grow new plants! It’s all part of the fun.
FAQs
Will my plant arrive with broken stems?
Possibly — and that’s okay! Sedum Burrito naturally drops leaves and stems when touched or moved. These cuttings can be easily propagated, and the main plant will continue to thrive once settled.
How fast does Sedum Burrito grow?
In warm, bright conditions it grows fairly quickly and will keep trailing over time. Regular feeding in the growing season helps speed things up.
Can I grow it outdoors?
Only in very mild, frost-free conditions. It’s happiest indoors on a sunny windowsill.
Do you include a gift message?
Yes — just leave your message at checkout, and we’ll handwrite a card and leave out the paperwork so it arrives as a lovely surprise.
